Digihats x Ethereum

“Our greatest glory is not in not falling, but in rising every time we fall.” Confucius

Why Digihats is moving to Ethereum

There are a few reasons the team at Digihats is choosing to move to Ethereum, but the simplest way to put it is that we fell down. Moving to Ethereum is our way of rising and creating the product that we originally wanted to create. First off, I feel it is best if I tell you a bit about us. Back in the spring of 2021, the tremendous success of projects like Crypto Punks and Hashmasks fascinated the team. It amazed us that these projects could upload .jpg images to the blockchain and create a community around them. This inspired us to dip our toes in the water and test our luck with our own NFT, Digihats!

In the beginning, we knew hardly knew anything about coding on the blockchain, marketing a project, or growing a community. We just told ourselves we would pray things worked out and learn as we go. We built our project on top of the Binance Smart Chain because of the cheaper fees and relatively untapped NFT community on their network.

Developing on this network was a blessing and a curse. The relatively cheap fees allowed our users to mint Digihats at a fraction of the price they would pay on Ethereum. This attracted lots of users in the beginning when the price of BNB was hovering around $200 USD. The unfortunate part about developing on BSC was the lack of marketplaces on their platform. The team was in contact with many marketplaces on BSC, but they all fell through. This really affected our spirits and made it hard to move forward. On top of this, we had a loving community that was looking for answers about the next steps of this project.

Since Digihats was the team’s first project we did not know how to handle a situation like this. We are ashamed to say this, but this drove us into a depression, and we felt the best option was to isolate ourselves and withdraw from the community, as we didn’t know what to do. Obviously, this was not the right choice, and we weren't happy with it. The hardest thing seeing all these marketplace listings fall through and nobody get back to us because we had all put so much time into developing the project and building the community. Everyone was looking for answers and we couldn’t provide them.

Over the summer we kept thinking back to the good old days of the Digihats community. The day we sold out the first tier, the reveal, everything, we missed so much and knew the decision we made was not right. Halfway through the summer, we all started talking again and agreed we needed to make this right. All you guys are so amazing, and we appreciate you so much, we couldn’t just leave you hanging!

We put our heads down and got to work. We spent a lot of time researching the current NFT ecosystem and found that the ETH community is not going anywhere. If we wanted to make Digihats the project that matched our original vision, we needed to move to Ethereum. Slowly we took apart our old smart contract, upgraded it, and added true randomness on the blockchain without a delayed reveal. This means that as soon as you mint your Digihat on the ETH network you are instantly going to know which Digihat you got. Cool right!

A little sidebar — do you know the animation for the opening of CSGO cases? If you don’t it is basically a roulette wheel that spins then slows down revealing the skin you got. Our website developer built a feature into the website where after you mint your Digihat, you can spin a wheel and instantly see which one you got!

So, how is this all happening?

In order for you to move your Digihat to Ethereum, you will need to sacrifice your BSC Digihat by sending it to the graveyard (burn address). We will compensate you 2:1 or 10:1 with credits for Digihats on our ETH smart contract. If you sacrifice a normal Digihat you will be compensated 2:1, but if you sacrifice a unique Digihat you will be compensated 10:1.

Sacrificing your Digihats means that you are giving up the current Digihat you have on BSC for 2 or 10 NEW DIGIHATS on Ethereum. The Digihats on Ethereum will have an upgraded contract, where we have achieved a random distribution on the block chain. This means that when you mint a Digihat on ETH you will instantly know which one you got. This random distribution that is built into the contract also prevents people from sniping the UNIQUE DIGIHATS!

Sacrificing your Digihats is an optional process. You do not have to sacrifice your Digihat if you don’t want to. Nor do you have to sacrifice all your BSC Digihats when you are converting them for the new ETH Digihat.

Let’s say that you bought 11 Digihats on the BSC network, 10 of those Digihats are one’s you want to sacrifice, but 1 of them you really like. You can keep that 1 Digihat you really like on BSC and convert the rest to the new ETH Digihats.

Since you sacrificed 10 Digihats on BSC, you would get credit to mint 20 Digihats on ETH. On our new contract, we have a randomized instant reveal, which means as soon as you mint a Digihat, you will know which one you got.

They also asked whether they could buy Digihats right now on BSC and be able to convert them 2:1 on ETH. Until August 22nd, 2021, you can buy Digihats on BSC and have them eligible for the 2:1 or 10:1 conversion on ETH. Any Digihats minted after August 22nd, 2021 will not be eligible for the conversion. Minting means Digihats created through the mintNFT function on our smart contract after August 22nd.

This does not mean Digihats purchased on a secondary market. As long as the Digihat was minted before August 22nd, 2021, it is eligible for the swap. For example, if a Digihat was minted on March 11th, 2021, but purchased on a secondary market such as babylons.io after August 22nd, 2021, it would still be eligible for the 2:1 or 10:1 conversion.

I hope this answered any of your questions that you had about Digihats switch over to Ethereum. We know that when we pull off this move, everyone will be talking about Digiahts. We are so excited about the next few weeks have in store for us and the Digiaht community. If you have any further questions, please message us on our Telegram, Discord, or tweet @thedigihats on Twitter!

P.S. — If you didn’t get the joke. The Digihats team is wearing sailor hats because we’re coming to OpenSea!!!

Digihats

Numbers are cool, right? Digihats is a NTF project that started on BSC and moved to ETH. There are 8888 unique computer-generated Digihats to collect!
